Totara Park – 17 June
About 50 people, mostly members of the club plus some husbands, partners (and brother in laws) met up at Totara park last Sunday morning for the first Outdoor Training session of 2012. Many of our ladies enjoy taking part in the annual Auckland and Rotorua Tough Guy races and each year we put on some special outdoor training sessions, just to get everyone ‘in the mood’.
The morning started off quite chilly, but as soon as the sun came out the light frost disappeared and it turned out quite warm. The format for the morning was, get into a small team, then collect a map and follow the route laid out. The team to collect visit all the check points is the “winner”. As quite a few teams collected all the check points – the fastest team home collected the chocolate bars.
Claire and Alan – the gym owners (and event organisers) were around and about helping people…Alan was mostly confusing people, although it mustn’t have been too bad as everyone arrived home safely. Out on the course there was tracks, muddy swamps, fences to cross and even a stream jump.
Some people had done this type of activity before, but many hadn’t. We were proud to see the number of people willing to take a step outside of their comfort zones on a Sunday morning and try something new. The feedback from everyone was great and (hopefully) everyone will be at the next session on the 8th of July.
