We’ve signed up to Dry July the charity that helps adults living with cancer all over New Zealand – and have sworn off drinking alcohol for the whole month. That’s 31 days where we’ll actually be accountable for our actions. Yikes!
Dry July is also a chance to raise awareness of individual drinking habits, the value of a balanced healthy lifestyle, a personal challenge, encourage positive change and an awareness of a healthy attitude to alcohol consumption.
In appreciation of our radical transformation, any generous support you may be able to offer will go a long way to ensuring we don’t fall off the wagon, as well as helping the many adults around New Zealand that live with this terrible disease.
Why have we decided to support this charity? Well we each have a different reason for myself (Kayleen) personally it’s to thank them for the help they gave my grandmother while she suffered with pancreatic and spinal cancer. Although she didn’t survive they did a lot to help ease her suffering which I will forever be grateful.
For Rochelle it is because of her Sister:
My little sister Charlotte was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma at the age of 16. I have spent many hours in the Auckland day stay unit while Charlotte was having her chemo. She is one of the strongest minded people I know.
She lost all her hair & refused to wear a wig, when she wasn’t strong enough to go to school, she was home schooled and still passed NCEA. Charlotte won the battle with Cancer and is turning 22 this year. She is happy, healthy and now has long brown hair.
